Rainbreak Story Process

This shows the process of my drawing "Rainbreak Story".

1 -- I made the low resolution sketch on Photoshop with a 3px brush.

2 -- Enlarging the sketch to a much higher resolution, I made a clean lineart of the characters on SAI. I find making lines on SAI is much better than Photoshop. I might use SAI for my lineart from now on. Also, I made Ai's legs a bit longer to correct her height. xD

3 -- Now back to Photoshop. Unlike my other drawing "Aetio", I began with the background first. I filled it with the dark grey and then slowly and carefully added the lighter colours. There was some usage of the dodge tool for the sun.

4 -- Moved in closer to the mountains, rocks, grass and fog. I spent quite some time getting the shading right for it all. After that, I dabbed some white onto the rocks to create a wet sparkle effect to enhance the environment. Very little dodge here.

5 -- Base colours of the characters come in. Colours for Celia was already decided. I still had to decide the colours for Ai. Something along the hue of light blue or cyan.

6 -- Shading of the characters now. Because I have a background, I have an actual light source to refer to. If the light is intense, there should be more contrast between the lights and darks.

7 -- Extra foreground elements including blades of grass, butterflies and shadows. An outer glow effect was added to most of the blades of grass that are in midair and near the sunlight.

8 -- I realized that the character shading seem to stand out too much because it's more dark, vivid and contrasted. So what I did is increase the contrast of the background to make the colours match closer together. I did lose a lot of the colouring from the sky, but it wouldn't be bright enough if I had only contrasted around it.

9 -- Added the rays of light onto an overlay layer, the noise texture effect and my usual siggy. x3

Again, simple and straightforward. There were a lot of layers. I don't want to open the file again. It's too big and takes long to load. xD; I hope this is helpful to you all. Enjoy! ^U^
